NAN’s 2021 Virtual Convention:
Looking back at Day 1

(NEW YORK, NY) — The first day of NAN’s Virtual 2021 Convention featured virtual keynotes from President Joe Biden and Attorney General Garland, as well as remarks from the Honorable Karen Bass, U.S. House of Representatives and Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen.

In Attorney General Garland’s address, he promised to prioritize investigating police departments that commit civil rights violations, saying that the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division “will also prioritize investigating whether government agencies are engaging in patterns or practices that deprive individuals of their federal or constitutional rights.”

Following a panel “Mothers of the Movement”, featuring activated mothers of children lost to police brutality — Reverend Al Sharpton, in a press release with Attorney Benjamin Crump Esq., announced that NAN will cover the Daunte Wright’s funeral costs.

The day concluded with NAN’s annual ‘Keepers of the Dream’ dinner. Among the honorees were Stacey Abrams, Kizzmekia S. Corbett, Carole King, Singer, Scott Mills, Deyman Byam, and Rashida Jones.
