Statement from Rev. Sharpton after Obama NAACP Speech
—July 16, 2009. “I salute President Obama on a truly historic speech where he not only clearly expressed the need for continued vigilance on inequality in this country, but he challenged African-Americans to make no excuses. It is important that we embrace the President’s whole message, not just the parts we may like.
Our commitment to work towards health care and education must cross party lines, as he even brought up in his speech that I have even begun working with Newt Gingrich towards education because this is the only way we will solve the problems in this country. I was inspired by the President’s message that America must finish closing the gap of inequality and African-Americans must operate with no excuses any longer.”
