REV. AL SHARPTON TO KEYNOTE 153RD DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA EMANCIPATION DAY ANNIVERSARY PRAYER BREAKFAST & CALL FOR A VOTE TO CONFIRM LORETTA LYNCH AS U.S. ATTORNEY GENERAL

As women leaders continue their Confirm Loretta Fast Campaign, Rev Sharpton to make forceful case For A Vote at DC Prayer breakfast

WASHINGTON, DC— Rev. Al Sharpton to deliver keynote speech at the 153rd District of Columbia Emancipation Day Anniversary Prayer Breakfast, hosted by The Government of the District of Columbia. During his speech Rev. Sharpton will continue to push for the Senate to call a vote to confirm Loretta Lynch as the next U.S. Attorney General. Rev. Sharpton will speak to the issue this delay creates in leading to greater uncertainty among law enforcement officials across the country in implementing common-sense law enforcement reforms at the local, state, and federal levels.  The breakfast will be held tomorrow, Thursday, April 16, 2015 at the Willard Hotel, 1401 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, D.C. from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM.

Today, National Action Network (NAN) launched a Confirm Lynch Fast campaign along with other women civil rights leaders to put pressure on the Senate to call for a vote. Confirm Lynch Fast is a fast inspired by the examples of leaders like Dr. Martin Luther King, Mahatma Gandhi and Cesar Chavez, who used fasting or hunger strikes as a nonviolent approach to resolving conflict.

This past Saturday during NAN’s annual national convention, Rev. Sharpton was joined by leadership from national civil rights organizations – National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) President and CEO Cornell William Brooks, National Urban League President and CEO Marc Morial, among others – in calling for an end to the historic delay to confirm the nation’s top law enforcement official.

Later that day Rev. Sharpton traveled to North Charleston, South Carolina where he preached and held a prayer vigil as well as met with the family of Walter Scott and the North Charleston Mayor and Police Chief. This is just one of many cases that show the urgency to push for Lynch’s confirmation, who reports indicate has the votes necessary to be confirmed as Attorney General.
