Rev. Al Sharpton to hold media availability from New Orleans tonight to call for Black churches to unite & to raise record monies for Haiti and to denounce Pat Robertson’s comments referencing New Orleans & Katrina

Jan 16, 2010

Today from New Orleans, Louisiana, where Katrina ravaged the City, Rev. Al Sharpton will call upon churches throughout the country to raise record numbers of contributions for Aid to Haiti.

Rev. Sharpton has commenced a Black church fundraising drive and is urging Pastors in their respective churches tomorrow to denounce Pat Robertson’s comments about Haiti. According to Rev. Sharpton: “Louisiana couldn’t have been purchased if the Haitians had not fought the French and to act like the Haitians brought this catastrophic tragedy upon themselves as Pat Robertson did is wicked and immoral.”

Joining Rev. Sharpton in this call to action is Honduran-born, New Orleans native Rocsi, the star of BET’s 106 & Park, who helped raise money when Katrina hit and who joined Rev. Sharpton this morning to say that we must support Rev. Sharpton, Wyclef Jean and Yele Haiti and others to raise money for Aid to Haiti. Rocsi said: “the world must unite to bring aid to Haiti and I will use my voice on TV as a conduit for mobilizing support.”
