New York City Peace Week

Jan 14, 2010

National Action Network (NAN) and Reverend Al Sharpton want to personally invite you and your young people to take part in a groundbreaking project that we believe can truly make a difference in our community. During the week of January 15 – 22, NAN is joining forces with the leading anti-violence community organizations, corporations, hip-hop celebrities and elected officials across New York City to show our community how peace on our streets can be a reality. New York City Peace Week is the 1st annual week of high profile events organized by NAN and other non-violent organizations. The goal of the week is to promote peace in the five boroughs and to lead our community towards eliminating violence in our streets. From teen jams to town hall meetings, New York City Peace Week will serve as an outlet for young people to learn how to better themselves as individuals as well as better their communities.

A special activity we want to bring to your attention during New York City Peace Week is on Saturday, January 15th at NAN’s House of Justice (106 W. 145th Street @ Lenox Avenue) from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. The Saturday Morning Cipha is devoted to our young people and will feature a variety of speakers who will discuss education, health and wellness, the media’s portrayal of young people and the next generation, and will end with a powerful message by Reverend Al Sharpton.
