NATIONAL ACTION NETWORK DECRIES THE CONTINUED ASSAULT ON PLANNED PARENTHOOD SAYING THAT BY PULLING FUNDING THE SUSAN G. KOMEN BREAST CANCER FOUNDATION IS DENYING BASIC HEALTH CARE TO LOWER INCOME COMMUNITIES

Feb 03, 2012

Friday, February 03, 2012 (New York, NY)—Tamika D. Mallory, National Executive Director of National Action Network (NAN), is organizing women of NAN and other women of color to speak out on the decision of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation to discontinue giving hundreds of thousands of dollars in grants to Planned Parenthood Federation. The move hurts middle and lower income women who seek services that only insured or wealthy can afford. On Tuesday, Planned Parenthood revealed that 19 of its affiliates would no longer receive grants from the Komen foundation for breast health programs. According to Mallory and others, this is a calculated political assault by conservatives who oppose Planned Parenthood’s position as an abortion provider. Mallory says NAN supports the letter from 26 Democratic senators urging Susan G. Komen to reconsider and will step up efforts to organize to protect women’s rights by urging people to pull donations from the Komen Foundation.
