Mar 01, 2012

Rev. Al Sharpton to Broadcast Live from the ‘Selma to Montgomery’ March

New York – March 1, 2012 – As prospective voting laws continue to be a critical issue ahead of the upcoming elections, MSNBC’s ‘PoliticsNation’ will expand on its coverage of this topic in its ongoing series titled “Block the Vote.”

From Monday, March 5 through Friday, March 9, Rev. Al Sharpton will host ‘PoliticsNation’ live from the ‘Selma to Montgomery’ march to protect voter rights, which will commemorate the historic 1965 marches of the same name. Led by Rev. Al Sharpton and the National Action Network, the march will begin at the Edmund Pettus Bridge on Sunday, March 4, and will end with a rally at the Alabama State Capitol on Friday, March 9.

In addition to highlighting the continuing efforts against voter suppression, the march will rally to reverse anti-immigration laws in the state of Alabama.

Joining Rev. Al Sharpton and the National Action Network in the march will be Martin Luther King III and Congressman John Lewis (D-Ga.), who helped lead the 1965 ‘Selma to Montgomery’ voting rights march with Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.

MSNBC will also cover portions of the march during its daytime programming, giving a look into this movement to protect civil and voter rights.

‘PoliticsNation’ with the Rev. Al Sharpton airs Monday-Friday at 6PM ET. Matthew Saal is executive producer.
