Letter to Dr. W. Franklyn Richardson, NAN Chairman, re: Bogus Report in New York Post about National Action Network’s Finances

Rev. Dr. W. Franklyn Richardson, Chairman of the Board
Dear Mr. Richardson:
The recent article in the September 7th, 2010 issue of the New York Post titled “Audit Finds Sharpton’s Non-Profit on Brink” stated that our firm, KBL, “found the civil-rightsgroup in such financial disarray that it flunked its record-keeping — and may not even survive.”
This is the New York Post’s opinion of our audit of the Nation Action Network.
The reality of the situation is, that while NAN has had financial and record keeping issues in the past which include the 2008 period that was audited by us, there have been significant improvements in their financial reporting and record keeping since that time.
NAN is working diligently with the IRS and NYS to pay off back payroll taxes, and while we were conducting our 2008 audit, put in place the payroll company ADP to keep them current on ongoing payroll tax obligations.
It is our expectation to have the 2009 audit completed by November 15, 2010.
Please feel free to contact me to discuss further.
Regards,
Sanjay Singla
