Civil Rights Leader Reverend Al Sharpton on the Resignation of Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy

NEW YORK – Civil rights leader Reverend Al Sharpton released the following statement on the resignation of Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy:

“We salute the forced resignation of Police Superintendent Gary McCarthy, but it is only a deposit on justice and not a full payment. The Chicago Prosecutor needs to recuse himself and use the model we have established in New York to force the Governor to appoint a special prosecutor, not only for the case of Laquan McDonald but for all cases relating to the fatalities of citizens at the hands of police. Governor Andrew Cuomo did so in New York and it should be a model for the country.”
