TODAY: REV. AL SHARPTON TO DELIVER KEYNOTE ADDRESS AT CONFERENCE OF NATIONAL BLACK CHURCH’S LEADERSHIP RECOGNITION AWARDS

Dec 13, 2023

Dinner Comes on Second Night of Organization’s Annual Consultation in Orlando, to Focus on Mandate for Voter Participation

Orlando, FL (Wednesday, December 13, 2023) –– Rev. Al Sharpton, Founder and President of the National Action Network (NAN), will take part in the Conference of National Black Churches’ (CNBC) Annual Consultation in Orlando this evening. The civil rights leader will deliver the keynote address at the organization’s Leadership Recognition Dinner, which will be focused on the mandate for voter participation ahead of the 2024 General Election.

Rev. Sharpton has made several trips to Florida this year to protest the DeSantis Administration’s attempts to roll back civil rights for Black residents. In February, he led a protest against Governor DeSantis after his administration moved to ban the teaching of AP African American studies in Florida’s public high schools. Rev. Sharpton later delivered the eulogy for Angela Carr, one of three innocent bystanders murdered in the racially motivated mass shooting at the Dollar General in Jacksonville. And just this past November, Rev. Sharpton addressed Governor DeSantis’ failure as an effective and inclusive leader for Black Floridians during a sermon at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, just blocks from the state capitol.

CNBC, which is chaired by NAN Chairman Dr. W. Franklyn Richardson, represents the four largest historically Black Christian denominations, encompassing over 80% of Black Christians and a total of 20 million Americans. The consultation is a rare opportunity for these leaders to come together to discuss health equity, civil rights and other pressing issues for Black Christians.
