Statement By NAN On GA Senate Runoff Elections

Jan 06, 2021

Washington, DC (January 6, 2021) — The National Action Network congratulates the people of Georgia and it is the dawn of a new day if we continue to galvanize around civil rights. We have seen record turnout for a runoff election, demonstrating the strength of our democracy and Georgians’ determination to use their right to vote to determine their futures. Black voters and other marginalized communities exercised their influence in this election. We are thankful for the allied organizations some who worked with our Atlanta Regional office, and grassroots volunteers for their unprecedented efforts to mobilize voters, defying skepticism again successfully.

“Georgia electing its first Black Senator-elect and first Jewish American Senator-elect in our time is a sign of a new America. We are bringing America back to where we ought to be and moving forward towards change,” said NAN President and Founder, Rev. Al Sharpton

Added Ebonie Riley, NAN Washington, DC Bureau Chief: “We will lean on Jon Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock to work with President-elect Biden to pass meaningful legislation. It is time to move past the 2020 election and come together to deal with challenges that we all face with COVID relief, expand health care access, and deliver racial justice and police accountability.
