Signature NAN Convention Event to Celebrate Women’s Advancement and Excellence
New York, NY (April 2, 2024) – Rev. Al Sharpton, President and Founder of the National Action Network (NAN), will honor luminaries including Mika Brzezinski, Stacey Abrams, Alexis McGill Johnson on April 11th at the 2024 Women’s Empowerment Luncheon – one of the most well-attended events at the NAN Annual Convention in New York City. Gov. Kathy Hochul, the first woman to lead New York State, will deliver remarks at the event, hosted by award-winning journalist Mara S. Campo, and will also recognize Lisa Price of Carol’s Daughter, Michelle Stoddart of Resorts World New York City, and Dr. Valerie Daniels-Carter of the Church of God in Christ.
“Black women have long been the backbone of our communities, driving change and progress despite facing immense challenges,” said Rev. Al Sharpton, President and Founder of the National Action Network. “The Women’s Empowerment Luncheon is not only a celebration of past achievements but also a call to action for future generations. It is a reminder of the importance of empowering Black women, supporting their endeavors, and amplifying their voices in a society where they have to work twice as hard to be half as good.”
Since its inception in 1991, the National Action Network has been dedicated to uplifting Black women and amplifying their voices. The Women’s Empowerment Luncheon – Co-Chaired by Tanya Lombard, Vice President of Global & External Affairs, AT&T, and Rachel Noerdlinger, Partner, Actum – has become a moment to celebrate, activate, and galvanize Black and Brown women and their role in shaping our society.

Black women continue driving change and progress amid adversity, challenges, and historic barriers. The last year alone has seen affirmative action in higher education effectively ended and organizations aimed at economically empowering Black women targeted by discrimination lawsuits. While more Black women are starting businesses than ever before, threats against their advancement remain steadfast. In a world where Black women are not given a seat at the table, the Women’s Empowerment Luncheon sets the stage for their achievements to be celebrated, their resilience to be honored, and their stories to be shared.
