REV. AL SHARPTON TO CONVENE ATTORNEY BEN CRUMP-LED PANEL TURNING GRIEF TO ACTION AT 2024 NAN CONVENTION ON THE CONTINUED FIGHT FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE AND POLICE ACCOUNTABILITY

Relatives of Eric Garner, Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd, Trayvon Martin, Tyre Nichols, and AJ Owens to Join Attorney General for Black America to Share Their Experiences in Demanding Action After Tragedy
New York, NY (March 26, 2024) – Rev. Al Sharpton, Founder and President of the National Action Network (NAN), will welcome Attorney Ben Crump to moderate the Turning Grief into Action at the 2024 NAN Annual Convention in New York City on Wednesday, April 10th, as one of the first major discussions at the gathering. Crump, whom Rev. Sharpton has called the Attorney General for Black America, will be joined by the relatives of Black Americans unjustly killed either by law enforcement or in violent acts of hatred.
Turning Grief into Action is one of the marquee panels held on the first day of the Convention every year. In addition to these relatives sharing their personal story, Attorney Crump will guide a conversation on how unspeakable losses such as these can be turned into shared action for accountability and justice. He will be joined by Gwen Carr, the mother of Eric Garner; Wanda Cooper Jones, mother of Ahmaud Arbery; Philonise and Terrence Floyd, the brothers of George Floyd; Sybrina Fulton, the mother of Trayvon Martin; Rodney and RowVaughn Wells, the father and mother of Tyre Nichols; and Pamela Dias, the mother of AJ Owens.

Rev. Sharpton and NAN have stood by these families since each of these tragedies struck. NAN has covered costs for the funerals, with Rev. Sharpton and Attorney Crump delivering eulogies and calls to action at their ceremonies. The organization continues to work with these families either to hold their loved one’s killers accountable or advance issues to ensure no other unarmed Black or Brown person is murdered again.
