Rev. Al Sharpton on Today’s White House Meeting With New York City Mayor-Elect Zohran Mamdani and President Donald Trump

Nov 24, 2025

New York, NY (November 21, 2025) Civil rights leader Rev. Al Sharpton appeared on Deadline: Whitehouse with Nicolle Wallace on MSNOW to discuss York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani’s meeting today with President Donald Trump saying: “he thought he was cordial, respectful, he came in there focused and walked having sold out nothing.”

Key quotes from transcript:

Rev. Al Sharpton:

“It is very much politically seismic. … If the Democrats have any operative at all, they should be cutting a commercial right now of Trump saying this and putting next to Trump saying, you say things in campaigns to prove that he’s disingenuous. He admitted it. He [Trump] confessed on national television, “don’t believe anything I say, you can say anything in the campaign.”

“Secondly, Mamdani, according to their [Republican] strategy, Mamdani was to be the face that was going to turn the midterm elections from Democrat to Republican. They just lost that. He just removed that. The midterm elections just went up for Hakeem [Jeffries] and Chuck Schumer, for sure. in a seismic way. I don’t know what Mamdani said in private. From what I’ve seen of him, I don’t think he said anything, he didn’t believe it. He’s a cordial guy and he knows how to be.”

“He’s [Mamdani] respectful. He came in there focused, and he walked out, having sold out nothing. Donald Trump, who spent half the week demonizing Marjorie Taylor Greene, is ending the week praising Zohran Mamdani.”

Sharpton added “I think the takeaway for me, knowing both of the gentlemen in the room, is that Donald Trump totally deferred to Mamdani. Yeah, Mamdani said: “We don’t agree on a lot, but we can agree on this.” He [Mamdani] kept saying, “we’re not the same person.” While Donald Trump said, “He’s great. He can be a great Mayor. He’s great.” and I think that if you’re looking at both sides, Mamdani didn’t lose anything. He didn’t give up nothing. Trump threw Miller and everybody else under the bus.”
