IN LAST WEEK BEFORE NATION-DEFINING ELECTION, REV. AL SHARPTON TO MAKE FINAL PUSH TO ACTIVATE BLACK VOTERS IN ARIZONA, NEVADA

West Coast Trip to Conclude with 70th Birthday Celebration for Rev. Sharpton, Which Will Support NAN’s Non-Partisan Get Out the Vote Campaign
NEW YORK, NY (October 28, 2024) – Rev. Al Sharpton, Founder and President of the National Action Network (NAN), will make a final call to Black voters to turn out to polls by Election Day, with a three-day trip to Arizona, Nevada, and Southern California this week. The major leg of NAN’s non-partisan get out the vote tour follows a trip last week to four cities in Michigan to activate voters in the battleground state.
“This is truly the most consequential election of Black Americans’ lives because the very right to vote is on the ballot, alongside our ability to protect education access and economic opportunity,” said Rev. Al Sharpton, Founder and President of NAN. “NAN’s chapters around the country have reminded voters in their community what’s at stake, but we will take it to the next level in Phoenix and Las Vegas this final week.”
Last Thursday, Rev. Sharpton was joined in Michigan by Korey Wise and Council Member Yusef Salaam of the Exonerated Central Park 5, as well as Terrence Floyd, the brother of George Floyd. Their visit to Pontiac, Flint, Ann Arbor, and Detroit focused on the impact Black voters can have, the stakes of the 2024 elections, and the opportunities voting creates. Wise and Salaam also shared Donald Trump’s personal attacks on them – notably an $85,000 full-page New York Times ad – when they were wrongfully convicted in the 1989 Central Park Jogger case. Floyd also discussed the global response to his brother’s 2020 murder in Minneapolis, noting it galvanized voters who wanted to see stronger accountability for police misconduct.
That same message will be carried into rallies across Phoenix and Las Vegas. From there, Rev. Sharpton heads to Los Angeles to attend an event celebrating his 70th birthday earlier this month. The dinner will feature appearances from Earvin “Magic” and Cookie Johnson, Robert F. Smith, Anthony Anderson, Cedric the Entertainer. Rev. Sharpton will also present Lifetime Achievement Awards to Motown legend Smokey Robinson and veteran PR strategist Ken Sunshine for their lifelong dedication to the Civil Rights Movement.
