Statement by National Action Network EVP and General Counsel Michael A. Hardy Regarding Governor Andrew Cuomo’s Appointment of a Special Prosecutor for Killings by Police

NEW YORK – “On behalf of National Action Network, we applaud Governor Andrew Cuomo in taking the first step of taking local county politics out of police-related cases by appointing a special prosecutor for police-related civilian deaths. While this is a good first step, we have a long way to go and we thank the Governor for mentioning National Action Network by name for helping to bring us to this point.

“Rev. Sharpton consulted several times with Governor Cuomo by phone as well as with Attorney General Eric Schneiderman and he could not be in attendance for today’s announcement because he is in Washington for NAN’s Legislative and Policy conference with leading members of Congress, the Administration, policy experts, and civil rights leaders. Over 200 NAN chapter leaders from across the country are convening with legislative leaders to discuss pertinent civil rights issues.

“I was proud to represent National Action Network today and see our efforts actualized” says Attorney Michael A. Hardy.
