REVEREND SHARPTON STATEMENT ON TAMIR RICE CASE

NEW YORK – Civil rights leader and president of the National Action Network (NAN) Rev. Al Sharpton released the following statement following a Cleveland Judge’s decision in the Tamir Rice case. Rev. Sharpton recently spoke at the Justice Revival in Cleveland and NAN has closely monitored the case.

“The National Action Network praises Cleveland Municipal Court Judge Ronald Adrine for finding probable cause Thursday to charge Cleveland police Officer Timothy Loehmann with murder in the fatal shooting of 12-year-old Tamir Rice last year. We also find it notable that the Judge found probable cause to support negligent homicide charges against Officer Frank Garmback, who is accused of standing by after Tamir was shot in November at a recreation center, where he was playing with a pellet gun.

“NAN commends the group of activists and clergy members in Cleveland who asked Judge Adrine to review the case against Cleveland police Officers Loehmann and Garmback.

“In the last several weeks we saw an officer arrested and charged in the Deep South and we saw a Baltimore grand jury return indictments against six Baltimore officers. Prosecutor Tim McGinty in Cleveland must act now.”
