REV. AL SHARPTON TO RECEIVE DISTINGUISHED JAMES JOYCE AWARD IN DUBLIN, IRELAND FOR LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENTS IN CIVIL RIGHTS
Dublin, Ireland – National Action Network Founder and President Rev. Al Sharpton will receive the distinguished James Joyce Award in Dublin, Ireland on Sept. 25th., joining an remarkable list of activists and world leaders who have received the award on behalf of the Literary and Historical Society. Rev. Sharpton will also be named an honorary fellow of the historical society.
Past James Joyce award recipients have included Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Noam Chomsky, JK Rowling, Jane Lynch, Salman Rushdie, George Martin, Ralph Fiennes, F.W. De Klerk, John Howard, John Hume, Bill Bryson, Seamus Heaney, Michael Sheen, Rev. Jesse Jackson, and many more.
Founded in 1855 by the Blessed John Henry Newman, the Literary and Historical Society is University College Dublin’s debating society, which counts James Joyce as one its former illustrious committee members. The James Joyce Award itself is the highest honor any student society in Ireland can bestow upon an individual, and the Society has been addressed by every Irish Prime Minister and sitting President since its inception.
