THURSDAY: REV. AL SHARPTON TO MARK JUNETEENTH IN BROOKLYN WITH BREAKFAST AT JUNIORS WITH SPIKE LEE, JUNETEENTH CELEBRATION WITH MEMBERS OF HAITIAN DIASPORA

Jun 19, 2025

Event with Fellow Brooklynite and Oscar-Winning Filmmaker Will Focus on Importance of Voting, Evening Event to Condemn Trump Administration’s Recent Travel Ban on Haiti
NEW YORK, NY (June 18, 2025) — Rev. Al Sharpton, Founder and President of National Action Network (NAN), will celebrate Juneteenth this Thursday with two events in his native Brooklyn, including breakfast with Spike Lee at Juniors and an address that evening with members of the Haitian diaspora.
“Donald Trump’s latest travel ban is his latest affront to America’s role as a beacon of hope for the tired, poor huddled masses yearning to be free,” said Rev. Al Sharpton, Founder and President of NAN. “This especially affects Haitians, many of whom have relatives right here in New York City, who desperately need to escape continued uncertainty and threats in the nation. As we commemorate freedom here in the United States on Juneteenth, we must use this moment to continue the fight to ensure everyone in every corner of the globe is free. At the same time, it has never been more important for Black New Yorkers, especially in Brooklyn, to vote in local elections. NAN doesn’t tell our members who to vote for but what to vote for and our safety, economic opportunity, and civil rights are on the ballot.”
Rev. Sharpton and Lee, who both grew up in Brooklyn, will meet for breakfast at 9:30 a.m. at Junior’s — one of the borough’s most iconic restaurants. They are available to discuss with media the importance of voting in New York City, with early voting already occurring ahead of the June 24th primary.
Rev. Sharpton will then appear alongside Pastor A.R. Bernard and the Haitian American Alliance of New York at the Christian Cultural Center Church, led by the former, in Brooklyn. Last February, Rev. Sharpton and Pastor Bernard stood with faith leaders and New York City-based members of the Haitian Diaspora at City Hall to call on the prior federal administration to provide more support for the nation as it endured violence and political uncertainty. Even while the situation has stabilized, many Haitians have sought refuge in the United States as well as visit family here.
