National Action Network congratulates Laphonza Butler for her appointment to the U.S. Senate.

Butler will serve as the first Black openly LGBTQ Senator and the third Black woman to serve as a U.S. Senator. Butler currently serves as president of EMILY’s List. Butler worked nearly 20 years in the labor movement, serving as the president of the SEIU local 2015, the largest union in California and the nation’s largest union for long-term care workers.

While we support Congresswoman Barbara Lee’s Senate campaign, we also support Butler’s appointment.
