On The Eve Of Donald Trump’s Tulsa Rally, Rev. Sharpton to Deliver a Keynote Address to Tulsans Alongside the Family of Terence Crutcher & Other Victims of Police Brutality

Jun 16, 2020

One Week After Delivering the Eulogy for George Floyd, Sharpton to Discuss the State of Race and Policing in the Country

New York, NY (June 16, 2020) — Civil rights leader Rev. Al Sharpton, Founder and President of National Action Network (NAN), will join the family of Terence Crutcher in Tulsa this Friday, June 19th, as the keynote speaker for a commemoration of the anniversary of the emancipation of enslaved African people from bondage in the United States, also known as Juneteenth. Terence Crutcher was an unarmed Black man who was fatally shot in 2016 by police officer Betty Jo Shelby as he was standing next to his vehicle. Following the fatal encounter, a jury later acquitted Shelby, who now works as a deputy sheriff in a neighboring Rogers County, a direct contradiction to Trump’s new police reform executive order.

According to the Crutcher family, Rev. Sharpton is joining Tulsans in commemorating the Juneteenth anniversary and to honor the lives lost as a consequence of racial prejudice. Rev. Sharpton stands in unwavering solidarity with the call for justice for Terence Crutcher, Joshua Barre, Joshua Harvey and every victim of police brutality in Tulsa and across the nation. He also stands in solidarity with the calls of the community for sweeping reforms within the Tulsa Police Department and police departments across the nation. According to Rev. Sharpton, watered-down national, state or local efforts disguised as “reform” will not suffice.
