Markeis McGlocton Activists to Address FL’s Stand Your Ground Law

Local pastors and faith leaders are concerned Florida’s “Stand Your Ground Law” has negatively and disproportionately impacted poor and minority communities.
Attorney Ben Crump, The Family of Markeis McGlocton, The Tallahassee Chapter of the National Action Network, and local faith leaders to address Florida’s Stand Your Ground Law. Markeis McGlockton, 28, was fatally shot in the chest last week in Pinellas County, during a tussle over a disabled parking spot. Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri revealed that Drejka’s actions were “within the bookends of stand your ground and within the bookends of force being justified,”
The press conference, scheduled for Wednesday, August 8, 2018, at 11:00 AM at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, 224 N. Martin L. King, Boulevard, will outline the group’s plan for their voices to be heard at the ballot box

“Stand Your Ground is going to be one of the top — if not the top — issues for voters of color, because we see the deadly consequences first hand,” said Benjamin Crump, civil rights attorney. “If you want black people to show up to the polls, this is what matters to them,” said Crump.
