Mothers of the Movement to plan full schedule of memorial activities this weekend for the fourth anniversary of Garner’s death

NEW YORK — Civil rights leader Rev. Al Sharpton, Founder and President of National Action Network (NAN), and Gwen Carr, mother of Eric Garner, reacted Thursday to the NYPD’s announcement that it will proceed immediately with disciplinary action against NYPD Officer Daniel Pantaleo and Sgt. Kizzy Adonis for Garner’s death in 2014.

“The DOJ has been shamefully slow to bring justice in the case of Eric Garner, while six NYPD police officers have remained on the city’s payroll for a whole four years after brutally killing Eric,” said Rev. Al Sharpton, President of NAN. “We, at NAN, have stood with Eric’s family from the beginning – and fully support the NYPD in their decision to move forward immediately with disciplinary action, which we hope will finally bring justice to the perpetrators and closure for the family.”

“We want them to move forward expeditiously,” said Gwen Carr, Eric Garner’s mother. “But we have just been left hanging – and we got the sense that nothing was happening. We want all six police officers involved in my son’s murder to be held accountable.”
