U.S. DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES HILLARY CLINTON & SENATOR BERNIE SANDERS ALONG WITH LEADING CABINET MEMBERS TO SPEAK AT NATIONAL ACTION NETWORK’S 25^TH ANNIVERSARY NATIONAL CONVENTION APRIL 13-16

 

Convention Will Highlight NAN’s 25-Years at the Forefront of Civil Rights, Criminal Justice, Voter Protection, Education & Racial Equality in the Spirit & Tradition of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

 

New York, NY (March 2, 2016)—National Action Network (NAN), founded by civil rights leader Rev. Al Sharpton and a group of activists in 1991, has announced that the two leading Democratic Presidential Candidates, Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Senator Bernie Sanders, along with a number of current Cabinet members, will headline NAN’s 25^th Anniversary National Convention.

On the first day of the Convention on April 13th, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will lead a special Plenary Address at Noon. Prior to her remarks there will be Plenary Sessions by United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Julian Castro and United States Secretary of Labor Thomas Perez.

On Thursday, April 14^th Special Plenary Sessions will be held featuring SBA Administrator Maria Contreras-Sweet and US Department of Health and

Human Services Secretary Sylvia Mathews Burwell.

On Friday, April 15^th at 10:00 a.m. Democratic Presidential Candidate United States Senator Bernie Sanders will deliver a Plenary Address. Immediately following Senator Sanders will be a Plenary Session by Assistant to the President and the current White House Cabinet Secretary Broderick Johnson.

Among the highlights of NAN’s 25^th Anniversary national convention beyond the special plenary sessions featuring cabinet members will be panels and discussions on key national issues and the annual “Keepers of the Dream Awards” on Thursday, April 14th. The awards, given each year in April to mark the anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s death, honor those who have continued to advocate for the principles for which Dr. King gave his life. In 2011, President Barack Obama delivered the keynote remarks at the Keepers of the Dream Awards. The Awards will feature leading names in politics, entertainment, civil rights and business and will be released in the near future.

There will be a special televised forum at the end of the convention entitled “Measuring the Movement” hosted by Rev. Sharpton, featuring leaders from the legacy civil rights organizations and reviews by some of the legends of the civil rights movement.

NAN’s convention will bring together influential national leaders in the areas of civil rights, government, labor, religion, business, politics, media, and activism to assess where we are today. A full convention schedule will be released in the near future.

Some of the topics that will be addressed at the 2016 25^th Anniversary national convention include civil rights, criminal justice, voter protection, education, gun-violence, immigration, jobs, healthcare, women’s rights and much more.
