NATIONAL ACTION NETWORK LEADERSHIP HOLDS A PRESS CONFERENCE AT CITY HALL IN NORTH CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA, TO DEMAND THAT THE CONFEDERATE FLAG BE REMOVED

North Charleston, South Carolina (June 22, 2015) – – Senior leadership of National Action Network, the organization founded by civil rights leader Rev. Al Sharpton, convened today at City Hall in North Charleston, South Carolina, to demand that the Confederate Battle Flag be removed from the grounds of the State Capitol.

Reverend Nelson B. Rivers, III, Vice President, of Religious Affairs and External Relations for National Action Network and the Pastor of Charity Missionary Baptist Church, was joined by J. Elliott Summey, Chairman of the Charleston County Council, Senator Marlon Kimpson, North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey, City of Charleston Mayor Joe Riley, Elder James Johnson, State President of National Action Network and other elected officials and activists called for the removal of the Confederate Flag from the state Capitol. The leaders announced a rally at the State House on Tuesday, June 23 that will call on the South Carolina General Assembly to remove the Confederate Battle Flag from the grounds of the capitol.

Rev. Al Sharpton and NAN held a vigil in New York City at NAN’s headquarters over the weekend for the nine victims whose lives were taken at Emanual AME and will continue to call for justice in their name.
