SATURDAY: GOVERNOR MARTIN O’MALLEY WILL DELIVER REMARKS AT NATIONAL ACTION NETWORK’S ANNUAL CONVENTION IN NEW YORK

Press conference with national civil rights leader to follow on final day of 17th Annual NAN Convention

NEW YORK – Tomorrow, Saturday, April 11, Governor of Maryland Martin O’Malley (D) will address the National Action Network’s Annual Convention (NAN) in New York City. O’Malley, who is also a possible 2016 presidential candidate, will deliver remarks at 10:00 a.m. on the final day of the 17th annual NAN convention led by civil rights leader Rev. Al Sharpton in New York at the Sheraton New York Hotel & Towers.

This year’s annual convention arrives on the heels of a series of events that shined a bright light on the racial and civil rights challenges still plaguing America. It will be largest gathering of civil rights leaders since the tragedies in Ferguson, Staten Island and most recently, the tragic shooting of an unarmed man in South Carolina. Thousands of people are coming together – from faith leaders to business leaders to Obama Administration officials – to discuss ways to combat 21st century assaults on justice and equality.

Immediately following, leadership from national civil rights organizations – including National Action Network President (NAN) Rev. Al Sharpton, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) President and CEO Cornell William Brooks, National Urban League President and CEO Marc Morial, among others – will hold a press conference and call for the end to a historic delay to confirm the nation’s top law enforcement official. Reports indicate Lynch has the votes necessary to be confirmed as Attorney General.
