Background: Senator Adams and Assemblyman Jeffries will discuss state legislation that would protect New Yorkers’ privacy and due process rights by barring police departments from keeping computer databases of innocent people who are stopped, questioned or frisked by police officers.

The bill targets the NYPD’s practice of maintaining a computer database containing the names, addresses and other personal information of every individual who is stopped, questioned and frisked by NYPD officers, including the overwhelming majority of people who are stopped but are totally innocent – never arrested or issued a summons. It would amend state Criminal Procedure Law to prohibit police departments from storing in a computer database the personal information of individuals who have been stopped and/or frisked by police and released without any further legal action.

Assemblyman Keith Wright will discuss New York State Legislature Passage of a historic bill protecting domestic workers. The New York Legislature passed the Domestic Workers Bill of Rights, A1470B (Wright)/ S2311E (Savino) , making New York the first

state in the nation to provide new standards of worker protections for more than 200,000 employees in an industry which has gone unregulated for decades.

This historic legislation guarantees protection from discrimination, one of rest each week, overtime pay, and other basic labor protections long denied to nannies, housekeepers, and elderly caregivers employed in private homes.
