Statement by Rev. Sharpton regarding the Senate Judiciary Committee’s decision to affirm the nomination of Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court

The decision by the Senate Judiciary Committee to affirm the nomination of Sonia Sotomayor to the United States Supreme Court is a great step towards her becoming the first Latina justice to the nation’s highest court.

As I have voiced all along, her exemplary record indicates that she will be a great asset to the Supreme Court, and as the country faces major constitutional and legal issues, her voice represents impartial and objective advancements. The Senate Judiciary Committee should be commended for their decision to pass her vote on to the full senate and I urge their colleagues in the Senate to not stand in the way of progress and confirm her nomination.
