Rev. Al Sharpton & National Action Network (NAN) Send Prayers to the Families of Victims Involved In Today’s Connecticut Shooting

New York, NY (December 14, 2012)—National Action Network (NAN) offers condolences to the families of victims lost in today’s shooting at a Connecticut elementary school that left over 27 people dead, including 18 children, an according to published reports.

“Our prayers are with those devastated by this horrific shooting and we appeal for people to unite in prayer to end the bloodshed across the country. I hope that our nation’s leaders from all backgrounds and walks of life, can come together in the weeks ahead to forge a path where these terrible, senseless gun violent tragedies are eliminated from our society” said Rev. Al Sharpton.”

NAN National Executive Director, who sits on the New York City anti-violence task force, Tamika D. Mallory said: “Incomprehensible gun violence has once again claimed the lives of our nation’s most precious treasure, our children. My heart and prayers go out to the families in Newton, Connecticut at this most difficult and painful time.

NAN has made gun control and anti-violence a core mission and senior leadership within the organization has worked in New York State and federally to deal with gun control/anti-gun violence legislation, including legislation in the New York State Senate that may be lost thanks to the deal between Senate Republicans and Independent Democrats.

In July, Rev. Al Sharpton and NAN called on Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly to hold a summit on gun violence while at the same time the organization staged the Occupy The Corners Against gun violence effort on weekends in all five boroughs.
