The Board of Directors of National Action Network, Along with President and Founder Rev. Al Sharpton Appoint Pastor Michael A. Walrond, Jr. To Direct the National NAN Ministers Division

THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF NATIONAL ACTION NETWORK, ALONG WITH PRESIDENT AND FOUNDER REV. AL SHARPTON APPOINT PASTOR MICHAEL A WALROND, JR. TO DIRECT THE NATIONAL NAN MINISTERS DIVISION

April 19, 2012 (NY, NY) National Action Network and the National Board of Directors have announced that Reverend Michael A. Walrond, Jr. has been named the Director of the National Action Network Ministers Division. The Ministers Division will seek to revive ecumenical activism around crucial social and civil rights issues such as the Stand Your Ground and Voter ID laws and will organize state tours around the aforementioned issues.

Rev. Walrond is Senior Pastor of First Corinthian Baptist Church in Harlem, New York and a board member of National Action Network. He has been a leader in the national social justice movement and had helped mobilize clergy around critical issues impacting this country and people of color. Pastor Walrond is a native of Freeport, New York. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Religion from Morehouse College, and his Master of Divinity degree from Duke University School of Divinity.

Recognized by Newsweek as “one of the Lord’s Foot Soldiers” for his innovative use of the pulpit to reach at-risk youth, Reverend Walrond previously served as Pastor of the Zion Temple United Church of Christ in Durham, North Carolina, and as University Minister at Duke University.  In March, 2001, he was inducted into the Martin Luther King, Jr. Board of Preachers at Morehouse College as a “Distinguished Preacher.”
