National Action Network’s Youth Move to Present
National Save Our Post Offices Day-Friday, April 6, 2012

March 12, 2012- The National Action Network Youth Move will hold a National Save our Post Offices Day on Good Friday, April 6, 2012. The purpose is to bring awareness to the American public that 252 processing centers and 3700 post offices are scheduled to be closed by mid May. Along with those closings will come the elimination of approximately 35,000 jobs. Twenty-seven senators have signed a letter to the sponsors of the 21st Century Postal Service Act (S. 1789) asking them to approve amendments to the legislation that the American Postal Workers Union supports. The bill – which the APWU says is “unacceptable in its current form” – is expected to be brought to the Senate floor for a vote in the next few weeks. The NAN Youth Move wants Congress and the American people to realize the dire consequences that the postal closings will bring.

NAN Youth Move wants Congress and the American people to help them to save 35,000 American postal jobs and thousands of other non postal jobs that could be lost because of the downward effect of postal closings. On Good Friday, April 6th, the NAN Youth Move is asking everyone in the United States to participate in National Save Our Post Offices Day by buying stamps, mailing a package, sending letters, and spending money at post offices. NAN Youth Move is using this event to get the American public, especially young people, back into the habit of writing and sending mail instead of relying solely on social media.

National Action Network Chapters and organizations across the country will be having kick off events simultaneous on Friday, April 6 at 2:00pm eastern time. For more information please call 877-626-4651 or visit the National Action Network website at www.nationalactionnetwork.net .
