NAN Youth Move to hold Shake Off Violence Summit June 29th, 2012

Atlanta, GA (June 29, 2012)–In the midst of the country’s highest gang membership increase in the past 40-years, National Action Network led by Reverend Al Sharpton, along with Youth Move, have organized a National Youth Summit June 29, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. National Action Network’s National Youth Director Mary-Pat Hector organized the event to show that young people have a voice about the rising acts of gun violence across the country. Joining her will be NAN Youth leaders from cities including New York, Detroit, North Carolina, Washington, DC, Maryland,  Chicago, and more.  According to Hector: “We have to many guns on our streets,  and even worse we have too many guns on the streets in the hands of children.”

In Atlanta, Georgia, the NAN/Youth Move National Youth Summit will take place on June 29th at 9:00 a.m. at Grove Park Recreational Center 750 Francis Lane Atlanta, Ga 30317. The goal of the event entitled “The Shake Off Violence  National Youth Summit” is to provide an alternative to violence by strengthening youth in three ways: Relationships – Offer innovative relationship building workshops between the community and teens that helps connect the dots between where youth are and where they want to be. Peace – Leverage the relationships with civil rights icons and go back to traditional methods of non- violence, while using social media to do so. Pay it Forward- Enhance the pay it
forward culture.

Guest speakers include Rev, Al Sharpton, Erica Ford- I Luv  My Life Foundation, Gavin Mcguire Usher’s New Look Foundation, Clifford Harris (TI)King Foundation, Janice Mathis – Rainbow Push, Paul Porter – Industry Ears and others.
