Statement from the New York City Chapter of National Action Network Regarding the Fatal Shooting of NYPD Officer Peter Figoski

Dec 13, 2011

December 13, 2011 – New York, NY-National Action Network and the New York City Chapter of the organization founded by Reverend Al Sharpton, offer heartfelt condolences to the daughters and family of fallen New York Police officer Peter Figoski who was killed protecting the people of New York City.  While we did not know Officer Figoski personally, we know that he was a hero and a devoted father to his four daughters.  Additionally, we have read reports of how Officer Figoski earned 12 medals and made more than 200 arrests in a sterling 22-year career. We know he was a cop who braved a barrage of bullets while helping to corner and arrest Zodiac killer Heriberto Seda back in the 1990s. And he was an officer whose resume was replete with other examples of bravery under fire, even eager after 22 years on the job to be where the action was – on the night shift. (New York Daily News 12/13).  The New York Chapter and all of NAN’s chapters across the country are praying for Officer Figoski’s loved ones and surviving family and extend our love to those impacted by this great loss.
