NEW YORK — On his nationally syndicated radio show this afternoon, Rev. Al Sharpton announced that he would pay for the funeral of Pamela Turner, a Black woman who was shot and killed by a Baytown, Texas police officer this week after repeatedly claiming she was pregnant.
Rev. Sharpton hosted Turner’s sister, Antoinette Dorsey Jones, and the family’s attorney Benjamin Crump on “Keepin’ It Real”, his daily radio show that airs every week day from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. on a network of national radio stations. They discussed Sharpton’s plans to fund the funeral and speak at the service.
“This is another alarming example of the unacceptable use of force exercised by law enforcement against Black and Brown Americans,” said Rev. Al Sharpton, founder and president of the civil rights organization National Action Network (NAN). “Our hearts go out to Ms. Turner’s family and we at NAN will fight for a full and transparent investigation into the circumstances of this heartbreaking tragedy.”
Arrangements for the funeral will be announced at a later date.
