Rev. Al Sharpton, Founder and President of National Action Network (NAN) and the entire NAN staff applaud President Biden’s Executive Order Protecting Access to Reproductive Health Care Services.
—
Signed by the President today, the Executive Order pledges to protect reproductive rights by focusing on preserving patient privacy, ramping up public education efforts surrounding abortion, implementing increased safety of abortion patients and providers, organizing pro bono lawyers to assist those crossing state lines, expanding access to emergency contraception via HHS and more.
Following the Supreme Court’s devastating decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, Rev. Sharpton and NAN condemned the Court’s actions, warning that it would bring us back to the dark ages. Today, NAN praises President Biden’s Executive Order and we stand ready to utilize our resources and assist in any way that we can to ensure that every woman has bodily autonomy. The right to choose and reproductive rights are human rights – period.
Founded in 1991 by Rev. Sharpton, NAN works within the spirit and tradition of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to promote a modern civil rights agenda that includes the fight for one standard of justice, decency and equal opportunities for all, regardless of race, religion, nationality or gender.
