HARLEM, NY

On Tuesday, March 22nd the chapter’s “Second Chance Committee” will be coordinating their efforts and participating in the Correctional Association’s “Put People Before Prisons” Advocacy Day” event in Albany, NY. This event is absolutely free to attend, and buses are being provided by the Correctional Association. On March 26, 2 – 6 pm the chapter’s Women’s Auxiliary will be hosting the “Women of Excellence Awards Gala.” The event will be held at the Astoria Manor in Astoria, NY.

In honor of “Women’s History Month” chapter President Theresa Freeman-Timmons and members of the Women’s Auxiliary have began hosting the National Action Networks Saturday rallies. They are presenting a variety of women speakers who will talk about women’s issues.


RALEIGH (TRIANGLE), NC

The Raleigh chapter attended the, “People of Color, Justice and Unity Legislative Day,” on March 9 at the legislative building to challenge legislators to close the gaps and protect the sacred: our families, communities, and future.

On March 17 and 31 the chapter is hosting community forums at Orchard Point housing community. Two additional community forums are being organized for the Barwell Community discussing similar topics of interest to community residents.

ATLANTA, GA
Youth in Action and the NAN Atlanta Chapter are currently organizing a “Shake off the Violence” rally in Savannah, GA to address the recent rash of violent crimes perpetrated by youth. It’s tentatively scheduled for Saturday, February 26, 2011. For more information please call (678)732-0405.

NEW YORK, NY
The Chapter’s Youth Move Committee will be conducting their “Mock Protest” on Saturday, February 26th from 4-6pm at NAN’s House of Justice Headquarters, 106 W. 145th Street & Lenox Ave. New York. We will be officially teaching youth how to “fight” for themselves and around their issues instead of fighting and killing each other. People of all ages are encouraged to attend, youth in particular.

The Northeast Regional Director Chris Peoples and the Vice President of the NYC chapter Bill Griffin and members will be coordinating efforts along with Senator Malcolm Smith‘s Operation SNUG‘s “Don’t Shoot NY March & Rally” on Sunday, February 27th.This event is being held at the United Nations and is the intent is to bring about peace throughout the state as well as encourage everyone to put their guns down and stop the senseless killings. Anti-Violence Activist groups statewide are involved in this effort.

MEMPHIS, TN
The chapter is hosting, “State of Our Union-African Americans in Focus-Our National-Our City” on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at 10am. The location is the Dr. Martin Luther King Labor Center, 485 Beale St., Memphis, TN. Some of the topics to be discussed will include: The Role of the Black Church; Family Values; Infant Mortality; Education; Personal Wealth Economic Development; Labor; Health/Wellness & The Role of Local Government in our lives

RALEIGH (Triangle) NC
The chapter marched with NAACP on Feb 12th for the HK on J rally.  The chapter is assessing the results of the rally and organizing follow-up meetings on March 9, 2011 with various state leaders at the state legislative building in Raleigh, NC.

On March 10th and 17th the chapter is hosting community forums at Orchard Point housing community. Two additional community forums are being organized for the Barwell Community discussing similar topics of interest to the community residents.
