Chairman of National Action Network Dr. W. Franklyn Richardson sworn in as Chairman of Virginia Union Board of trustees

The Chairman of National Action Network Dr. W. Franklyn Richardson was sworn in as the Chairman of Virginia Union Board of trustees after being unanimously elected. Dr. Richardson replaces Dr. Frank Royal, who served as Board Chair for 30 years.


Dr. Richardson is a 1979 graduate of VUU and serves as Senior Pastor of the historic Grace Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, New York. He received his Divinity degree from Yale University Divinity School and his Doctorate of Ministry as a Wyatt Tee Walker Fellow from the United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio. Dr. Richardson has received many honors for his leadership in ministry including the Doctor of Divinity from his alma mater, Virginia Union University and several other colleges and universities.

Dr. Richardson served as General Secretary for 12 years of the eight million member, National Baptist Convention USA, Inc.  He also served on the boards of the Congress of the National Black Churches, the National Urban League, and the Constituency for Africa.  Richardson is a life member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and a member of the Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity. He also, recently became the chairman of the Conference of National Black Churches.
