“KIDS HAVE A GOOD FEEL FOR THE REAL THING….BAN THE HAZARD OF TOY GUNS”
AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM THE NATIONAL ACTION NETWORK CHAPTERS OF NEWTON AND CLAYTON-HENRY COUNTIES
Toy guns were once viewed a simple and harmless toy that allowed kid’s to play and dream. However, in today’s ever violent world, it has become the excuse for police fatal shootings in Black Neighborhoods. There are many recent examples of fatal shootings associated with toy guns with no one being held accountable. Many children are unaware of the danger of hand guns, and do not take account the weight, trigger pull, or any other factors that would lead them to realize that they are handling a real gun, and proceed to pull the trigger at an unsuspecting target that may end someone’s life.
The gun issue extends far beyond the initial impact to the point that criminals are painting their hand guns in an effort to disguise them as a toy gun in the commission of a crime. The Civil Rights Community is strongly urging manufacturers, consignments stores, and major retail stores to take a bold stand in the account for lives lost associated with toy guns. Stop the sale of any toy gun, and pull them from your store shelves. We are asking that you make a public statement of your company’s policy banning the sale of toy guns in an effort to curb the killing associated with this item.
In addition, the Civil Rights Community is asking all parents to destroy any toy guns that they may have in their homes, and discontinue purchasing these items. Parents, we are sincerely asking that you join in with us in making this urgent appeal a succcess so that our youth will not have access to or be confused with what is real. The initial purpose of a gun is to kill or injure someone. The end result is that achild can become traumatized for the rest of his/her life.
