Commissioner Rodney Ellis to Moderate Evening Featuring Bishop James Dixon, State Representative Ron Reynolds, and Deputy Ambassador Arthur Asiimwe of Rwanda, with a Tribute to the Legacy of Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr.

Houston, TX (March 18, 2026) – Rev. Al Sharpton, Founder and President of the National Action Network (NAN), will join clergy, students, and community leaders from across Houston for a powerful evening of dialogue on Wednesday, March 18th. The gathering, “A Conversation with Rev. Al Sharpton: Faith, Leadership & Community in a Time of Uncertainty,” takes place from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM at the John + Hazel Biggers Campus Administrative and Community Center in Houston, Texas.

Moderated by Commissioner Rodney Ellis, the evening will bring together faith and civic leaders to confront the defining challenges facing Black America and communities of conscience, from political division and civic uncertainty to the responsibilities of moral leadership during a critical election season. Rooted in the historic witness of the Black Church and faith institutions of all traditions, the conversation will focus on how leaders can provide moral clarity, encourage informed civic participation, and strengthen communities with dignity, compassion, and purpose.

The program will feature opening remarks and a welcome from Commissioner Ellis, an opening prayer from Bishop James Dixon, and reflections from State Representative Ron Reynolds and Deputy Ambassador Arthur Asiimwe of Rwanda. The evening will also include a tribute moment honoring the life and legacy of Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr. — connecting the movements of the past to the responsibilities of the present.

The gathering is designed as a values-centered dialogue bringing together clergy of all faiths, grassroots organizations, students, and community leaders committed to advancing justice, strengthening democracy, and guiding communities through challenging times, reinforcing NAN’s mission since its founding.
