MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – Baptist minister, civil rights activist, and radio show host the Rev. Al Sharpton will be the guest speaker at a historic Montgomery church’s anniversary celebration.

Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church will celebrate 147 years on Sunday, Dec. 8, at 10:30 a.m.

The theme of this year’s event is “Building a Legacy of Faith: Standing Firm, Growing Strong, Pressing Forward.”

“We are excited that Rev. Sharpton will encourage us as we celebrate our church anniversary,” said Dexter’s pastor, the Rev. Dr. Allen J. Sims, Sr. “His work for justice and equality is noteworthy and we look forward to his visit with us.” Sharpton is the founder and president of the National Action Network. He also anchors “PoliticsNation” on MSNBC and hosts nationally syndicated radio shows “Keepin’ It Real” and “The Hour of Power.”
