Rev. Al Sharpton to Confront Trump’s Legacy on Politics Nation, featuring NYC Councilman Yusef Salaam, Trump’s Ex-Attorney Joe Tacopina, and Former Apprentice Star Kwame Jackson, Discussing Trump’s Calls for the Death Penalty and Alleged Racial Slurs
New York, NY (May 31, 2024) –, Against the backdrop of Donald Trump’s recent guilty verdict on all 34 counts in his criminal hush money trial, Rev. Al Sharpton, the President and Founder of the National Action Network (NAN), will lead a transformative day of advocacy and discourse this Saturday, June 1st. Beginning at 10 a.m. Rev. Sharpton will lead a community prayer session at the NAN House of Justice in Harlem in support of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and his family. That will be followed by a series of high-profile guests on MSNBC’s Politics Nation including Yusef Salaam, a New York City Council Member and one of the Exonerated Five; ex-Trump attorney Joe Tacopina; and Kwame Jackson, a former contestant on The Apprentice.
“We stand together in prayer, resolute in our commitment to protect our communities from threats, whether they be physical or systemic,” said Rev. Al Sharpton, President and Founder of the National Action Network. “District Attorney Bragg and his family will not be with us on Saturday, but we want to send a message that we are with them tomorrow and every day to come. Our prayers tomorrow will not just be for them, but for all who face the unjust brunt of systemic oppression.”
At 10 a.m., Rev. Sharpton will convene a prayer gathering focused on the safety and well-being of Bragg and his family. NAN has not asked him or his family to be present. The prayer session aims to uplift and support Bragg and his family during this time, amid ongoing threats and challenges, including those posed by figures like the former president, who has recently been found guilty on all 34 counts in his criminal hush money trial.
Later in the evening, on Politics Nation, Rev. Sharpton will host a packed episode of Politics Nation in wake of Trump’s conviction. Salaam, who represents Harlem in the City Council, was among the five teenagers wrongfully convicted in the Central Park Jogger case — during which Trump took out full-page newspaper ads calling for their execution. Tacopina, Trump’s former attorney, will provide legal insights, while Kwame Jackson, a former contestant on The Apprentice, will discuss the then-host’s reported use of the N-word behind closed doors.
