REV. AL SHARPTON TO ADDRESS ROBERT SARVER’S BIGOTRY, SEXISM, AND ABUSE AS PHOENIX SUNS OWNER ON SATURDAY
—Pressure to Remove Sarver as an NBA Owner Grows as Players, Corporate Sponsors Speak Against Toxic Behavior
New York, NY (Saturday, September 17, 2022) – Rev. Al Sharpton, Founder and President of the National Action Network (NAN), will speak against Robert Sarver’s bigoted, misogynistic, and abusive leadership as owner of the Phoenix Suns. On Tuesday, the NBA issued the findings of a months-long investigation into Sarver, which found he used the N-word in public on at least five occasions and generally fostered a culture of abuse. Sarver, however, was hit with just a one-year suspension and fined $10 million.
Players including Lebron James and Chris Paul have spoken out about the actions, while corporate sponsor PayPal said it does not plan to renew its agreement with the Suns after this season if Sarver still owns the team. On Friday, Rev. Sharpton urged other corporate sponsors to cut ties with the organization if Sarver isn’t removed within the next month.
