MANHATTAN DA ALVIN BRAGG TO SPEAK AT NATIONAL ACTION NETWORK’S SATURDAY RALLY IN WAKE OF 6th EXONERATION IN THE CENTRAL PARK JOGGER CASE
—33 Years Later, Teenagers Known as the “Central Park Five” Become the “Exonerated Six”
New York, NY (July 29, 2022) – Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg will speak tomorrow at the National Action Network (NAN) House of Justice in Harlem on the heels of a sixth exoneration in the infamous 1989 Central Park jogger case, in which a group of Black and Latino teenagers were falsely convicted of raping and assaulting a white female jogger. Steven Lopez, a co-defendant alongside the so-called Central Park Five, was 15 at the time of his arrest. Now known as the Exonerated Five, Antron McCray, Kevin Richardson, Raymond Santana, Korey Wise, and Yusef Salaam’s convictions were overturned in 2002 following a confession and DNA match from the real assailant.
During the initial case, Rev. Al Sharpton helped raise bail money for the accused teens and was a vocal supporter of the Exonerated Five’s innocence.
