Baltimore Chapter Celebrates MLK Day, Starts Financial Assistant Program for Homeless

Feb 27, 2021

The National Action Network Greater Baltimore Chapter kicked off its initial community service plan with a Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration that announced NAN-GBC’s support in addressing the three Hs affecting communities of color as a result of the current COVID-19 pandemic:

On MLK, Jr. Day, the organization partnered with The Land of Kush restaurant and handed out free produce and free masks. As a combined effort to address nutritional needs and Personal Protective Equipment (“PPE”) in the city NAN-GBC coordinated with A. Philip Randolph Institute and Women on the Move to share reusable masks donated by Northeast Maglev.

With the goal of helping families during the recent surge in COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, and deaths, NAN-GBC volunteers distributed masks while fresh produce was distributed by our nutrition-focused partners.

NAN-GBC has additional activities it will host with other partners regarding the three priorities listed above. Free face masks will be distributed in tandem with free food programs in Baltimore City and Baltimore County through this February.

“A Pennies for the Homeless” campaign will be led by the organization to provide financial assistance for local homelessness programs responding to the needs of struggling families.
