Rev. Sharpton Gathers NYC Officials to Give Harlem Salute to David Dinkins
—Nov 29, 2020
(New York, NY) — Reverend Al Sharpton led the National Action Network in honoring the loss of New York City’s first and only Black mayor, David Dinkins, with a “Harlem Salute.”
Rev. Sharpton and NAN hosted the tribute to former mayor Dinkins at the House of Justice as part of NAN’s weekly Saturday Action Rally. Senator Chuck Schumer and Mayor Bill de Blasio attended and spoke to the mayor’s life and legacy.
David Dinkins was the 106th Mayor of New York City. He served the city in this position from 1990 to 1993, but worked as a civil servant for decades prior to his mayor term.
On his legacy, Rev. Shapton noted, “He preached about a gorgeous mosaic when many of us didn’t want to hear about unity, and he preached it anyway and won for mayor.”
