National Action Network Sacramento hosts Stephon Clark Memorial One Year later with Rev. Al Sharpton, Attorney Benjamin Crump, and Rev. Tecoy Porter
—On Monday, March 18th, Rev. Al Sharpton, Attorney Benjamin Crump, and the Rev. Tecoy Porter joined the family of Stephon Clark one year later after his death for a day of remembrance and activism. The day started with a press conference that morning at the steps of the California State Capitol building, where this trio called for the support of proposed police use of force CA bill AB392 along with adopting a Stephon Clark law which would require law enforcement to go before a grand jury when they are involved in the death of citizens.
Afterward, Rev. Sharpton and Attorney Crump participated in the Remembrance Commemoration Service, along with the family and community leaders, honoring the life of Stephon Clark held at the Genesis Church, Pastored by NAN Sacramento Chapter President Rev. Dr. Tecoy Porter. The service ended with a balloon release ceremony led by the Clark family.
The day ended with Rev. Sharpton joining former Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson for a special edition Oak Park Speaker Series at the historic Guild Theater. The packed audience got to glean from Rev. Sharpton’s 40-years experience as a community leader, politician, and minister, and learn first hand about his journey on becoming one of America’s most-renowned civil rights leaders.
Overall, it was a very eventful and powerful day in the state’s capital.
