Voting is one of our most sacred rights. We at NAN cherish and uplift the struggle of our ancestors to secure our right to vote. NAN has been at the front lines of the fight to protect the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and to fight back against the attempts to suppress our votes all across our country. We commit to making sure all our members are active participants in our democracy and exercise the power of their right to vote. As a national premier partner of National Voter Registration Day, Sept. 25th, and a member of Michelle Obama’s When We All Vote Initiative, we offer resources to all of our chapters to help register people in the community and get out the vote for the November Midterm Elections. As Dr. King said 53 years ago,

“The Civil Rights Act of 1964 gave Negroes some part of their rightful dignity, but without the vote, it was dignity without strength.”

NAN is committed to making sure ALL people get their right to vote restored, including those who are formerly incarcerated. We support our friends in Florida, Florida Second Chances, working to restore the vote to 1.4 million formerly incarcerate people, and lead the Restore the Vote NY Coalition in New York State, as well as serving on the Steering Committee for Let NY Vote, to change a host of election and democracy laws in New York State, including restoring the right to vote to people on parole.
