The Rev. Al Sharpton to speak at Ohio Legislative Black Caucus convention

COLUMBUS, Ohio — As dissension brews within the ranks, the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus will host a statewide convention for black elected officials — the first event of its kind in more than 25 years.

The Rev. Al Sharpton, the well-known civil rights activist and MSNBC political commentator, will deliver the keynote address Saturday at the Hyatt Regency Columbus.

“The African-American community faces huge challenges, including high unemployment rates, high drop-out rates for students and a lack of affordable health care,” said State Rep. Sandra Williams, the caucus’ president. “This convention is vital to every African-American in Ohio. The people attending will develop action plans designed to bring about change.”
