STATEMENT FROM REVEREND AL SHARPTON & NAN REGARDING THE CONTINUED CALLS FOR JUSTICE ON BEHALF OF TRAYVON MARTIN

Thursday, March 29, 2012—(New York, NY) “Since the time that Attorney Ben Crump, representing the parents of Trayvon Martin, reached out to me and National Action Network (the first national civil rights group to get involved in the case), I have called for the arrest of George Zimmerman for probable cause for the killing of Trayvon martin.

It appears from videos released yesterday and today that there is probable cause to also arrest him for obstruction of justice and for filing a false police report if in fact he told police he sustained a broken nose and other injuries.  From those videos and the time line on the videos, there is indication that the video was within an hour of the killing and there are no visible injuries or evidence of a broken nose. It is highly suspicious how any law enforcement personnel looking at George Zimmerman ever believed he sustained those reported injuries and that is why we reiterate that there must be a complete investigation into the Sanford Police Department.  National Action Network will continue to intensify our rallies and marches in the Sanford area around these calls.”

Reverend Al Sharpton, President of National Action Network
